Fall 2009 Introduction
NEWBOLD SEPTEMBER SONG NEWBOLD SEPTEMBER SONG (Bob Wilson 2009)(Gold Elephant x Lola Branham) Dip 7" (10" wingspan) SEv Late. This daylily is amazing when grown well. Not only can she grow tall (71") but she will bloom into October (here in Iowa). Her scapes are as substantial as that of a tetraploid and can have up to five branches. I registered her to have 41 buds, but I've seen scapes with over sixty. The bloom is a butter-yellow with a slight pinkish overlay and plenty of rust-colored stippling forming a reverse bicolor. She is especially fragrant in the evening. I would call her an unusual form cascade. Tends to proliferate, has heavy petal consistency and is fertile both ways. $100 |

BETSY'S PET EELS BETSY'S PET EELS (Bob Wilson 2009)(DREAM LIGHT X BLACK ICE) Dip 8" SEv Mid-late BETSY'S PET EELS is a true cascading spider with a 4:1 ratio. She averages 51" in height. Her bloom is what I would call a deep red maroon with a yellow-gold throat. There is a buff midrib up all tepals but it does not run to the tips. A dark cast flows on each side of the midrib. Each flower will show a wingspan of 11.5". She is slightly fragrant and her color holds in the hot Iowa sun. Her branching is top heavy as a "Y" or a "W" and will show anywhere from 11-22 buds in a long period of bloom. She is fertile both ways and an older clump will show some recurrent bloom. $100 |

ELLEN STRICKLAND ELLEN STRICKLAND (Bob Wilson 2009) (LAKE NORMAN SPIDER X OKLAHOMA KICKING BIRD) X HEAVENLY CURLS Dip 8" standing SEv Mid-season "Ellen" gets her beautiful orchid color from her pod parents. She has a white throat that comes virtually half way onto each tepal of her crispate form. The throat then disappears into a heart of the palest lime green. Somedays she looks lavender, but she always looks good. Standing 47" tall she really shows from across the garden. She is top branched with a "Y" or "W" and has 16 buds. A long season of bloom can be expected. Difficult pollen and I have never set a pod on her. She is named for my internet daylily pal, Ellen Strickland who died way too soon. $100 |
