Spring 2009 Introduction

NEWBOLD BETSY KATE

NEWBOLD BETSY KATE (Bob Wilson 2008) (Unk x Unk) Dip 7" Dor EM NEWBOLD BETSY KATE was a fall-planted seed that managed to escape the rigors of an Iowa winter and her parentage as well. She is tall (46") and vigorous once she settles-in. She may have PLANET MAX in her and PICKET FENCES could figure into the mix. I just don't know. Scapes hold three branches and 21 buds. Extremely fertile both ways. Narrow edge on burgundy petals may fade slightly in hot sun but the rest of the color holds superbly. $80

TWO MEN AND A DUCK

TWO MEN AND A DUCK (Bob Wilson 2008) (Red Zeppelin x Six Legs A Leaping) Dip 9" Dor MLook at those buds! Six Legs provided the genetics for that. This also shows that Red "Z" will give up its color. She is a soft, warm vanilla with generous blooms that hold in the hottest sunshine and when established will bloom her heart out. There were several nice plants from this cross but 2 Men made the final cut. $80

ALL THE BLONDES IN TEXAS

ALL THE BLONDES IN TEXAS (Bob Wilson 2008) (Aabaa x Swirling Spider) 11" Dor EM This is not a hybridizer's plant. I think Blondes is a chimera though I registered her as diploid having never really tried her pollen/pod fertility until this year. If you like a fireworks show you'll like Blondes at clump strength; watch out for a yellow explosion. A very showy garden plant. $50

BETSY'S RHUBOB CARBLER

(Bob Wilson 2008)(Spinning Span x Newbold Betsy Kate) Dip 5.5" Sev EM So what's the story in the name, you ask? My niece was making cobbler and kept getting tongue tied with the kind she was making. Here we go again with my deep, rich burgundy theme. These blooms hold in the hottest of Iowa days, but sometimes the tepal edges tend to fade, enhancing the look and creating the carbler crust. 53" x 3-4 way branching 32 buds. Bold color shows nicely across the garden. $80

DANCING ON THE HEAD OF A PIN

DANCING ON THE HEAD OF A PIN (Wilson 2008)(Red Zeppelin x Black Ice) Dip 7" Dor MLa Dancing has a long bloom season and is very floriferous when in bloom. She proudly holds her 45" scapes and blooms in the hot Iowa summer without any burning or damage to her deep burgundy (near black) flowers. She is generous with scapes and shows 12 buds per. Very fertile both ways. $80

2008 Seedlings

Seedling #1

...

Great seedling out of Six Legs a Leaping. The quilling is like this 100% of the time; nice budcount too. Will eventually be introduced.

Seedling #2

...

The colors on this seedling are gentle on the eye but the form (a pinched cascade) excites the senses.

Seedling #3

...

This seedling is out of RED ZEPPELIN breeding. It has the strength and leather-like petals of a tetraploid so it may be a chimera. The wingspan is about 12"

Seedling #4

...

A curling cascade with etherial coloring; very easy on the eye.

Seedling #5

...

A quilled-pinched unusual form. I may introduce this one in memory of  my good friend Ellen Strickland.

Seedling #6

...

With a garden name of  Flamingoes On The Run, this guy tries to produce every unusual form it can think of on a daily basis.

Seedling #7

...

A nice, big eyezone on this beauty. She is plenty fertile both ways.

Seedling #8

...

A pinched, twirling cascade seedling, fairly tall and nicely picoteed for interest.

Seedling #9

...

This UFO shows a huge white throat heading into a small green heart creating an unusual color combination.

Seedling #10

...

Fall 2009 intro (GOLD ELEPHANT X LOLA BRANHAM) 57" tall with three-way branching + terminal " v " and 38 buds.  Proliferates profusely and blooms to the very end of September; extremely fragrant; a bud builder.

Seedling #11

...

Fall 2009 intro (CAROLICOLOSSAL X LOLA BRANHAM) 79" tall with 5-way branching (probably a bud builder) 37 buds; flower size:  10" wingspan.  Incredible branching that leans only when loaded with pods.

Seedling #12

...

Fall 2009 intro (CONCORD NELSON X BLACK ICE) 45" tall with one branch and a terminal " v "; 16 buds with a 9" wingspan.  Large yellow-orange throat compliments the magenta-violet tepals beautifully.  Long season of bloom.

Seedling #9

...

Fall 2009 intro (PLANET MAX X NORTH WIND DANCER) 45" tall with one branch and a terminal "v" with a 9" wingspan. Coloration is wildly different and this seedling has a long season of bloom.
