BETSY IN RED

BETSY IN RED (Wilson 2011)(Chief Black Hand x Oklahoma Kicking Bird) This sunfast bloom is a remarkable Christmas red with just a hint of a tiny midrib, edges are piecrusted and the small throat is a bitter lime green. Bloom is 9" and shows various subtle face changes throughout the bloom season including pinching and near-cascading. "Betsy" develops beautiful pods and is pollen fertile; long season of bloom; fragrant; dormant; mid-late; SUNFAST. She is 38" tall and shows two to three-way branching and a bud count of fifteen. Her garden name was "red construction paper'. Named for my niece. $15/2 fans

WALTZ ACROSS TEXAS

WALTZ ACROSS TEXAS (Planet Max x Northwind Dancer) I knew I would intro this plant when I saw its first bloom. What a beauty! The petals are royal purple with a huge watermark that nearly goes to the tips. A large green throat blends upwards into the lavender watermark of the 7" bloom. A 53" scape will easily give you 16 buds on a mature fan. This mid-late season semi-evergreen cascade-crispate is like no other I've seen. Pollen is madly fertile but plant is pod difficult. $15/2 fans

PEG MULLEN

PEG MULLEN (Wilson 2011) (Orchid Corsage x Fun Fling) x Northwind Dancer With a height of 53", this beauty is sure to stand out in any garden. The color is difficult to describe but I'll call it a dusty rose with a darker near-violet chevron on the petals. The 8" (10"-11" if it is flattened from its normal cascade form) bloom has a very large lime-green throat. It is fertile both ways and has 3-way branching with 26 buds on this midseason dormant plant. Peg Mullen is the beginning of my hero series. She wrote the book "Friendly Fire" about her efforts to find the cause of her son's death in Vietnam. She touched me. $15/2 fans

BETSY'S HAWAIIAN PUNCH

BETSY'S HAWAIIAN PUNCH (Wilson 2011) (New Tangerine Twist x Carrick Wildon) An old seedling from 2002, this rare (for me) tetraploid cross is a 7" beauty. Several gardeners admonished me to introduce this one . She has piecrusted petals of a party punch coloration with a light midrib and a suggested darker halo. A loud orange throat tops the look. 53" tall with a 16 bud count on this mid-late season crispate; semi-evergreen. Very floriferous. $15/2 fans

DENNIS SCOTT WILSON

DENNIS SCOTT WILSON (Wilson 11) (Cerulean Star x Spinning Span) x Newbold Betsy Kate Burgundy-wine is what I would call "Denny's" crispate-cascade bloom. It has a wonderful green throat on its 7" bloom with a hint of a white midrib. The height is 44" with 3-way branching and a bud count of 18. The foliage is semi-evergreen; midseason. Named for my brother, Denny, who left this world too soon. He was a teacher and a fine human being. Denny liked this color of a flower. $15/2 fans
