2012 Introductions & Seedlings

H.G. WELLS

H.G. WELLS (Wilson 2012) (seedling x unk) An ongoing theme I am using to name daylilies is to honor my life's heroes. Author H. G. Wells introduced me to science fiction and that genre has become my favorite reading material when choosing a book (but now all my time is taken up with daylilies it seems, so I have very little of it for reading). I had the distinct feeling that I would introduce this alien-looking seedling when it first bloomed in a variety of forms. It is a lemon yellow with a wonderful green throat and blooms in the midseason. "H. G." is 6" but has a larger wingspan for a crispate/spatulate/cascade. Yes, you will enjoy all those flower forms. It has a dormant foliage habit and is fast growing. The stats show it to be 48" tall with 33 buds per scape with 3-4 way branching and it is diploid. Fertile both ways. $20/2 fans

FOREVER YELLOW

FOREVER YELLOW (Wilson 2012) (seedling x Jan's Twister) x Six Legs A Leaping 2012 was not a good year for evaluating plants but this one came through like a trooper. Too many yellows you ask? Nope, not when they have distinctive blooms like Forever Yellow and H. G. Wells. This plant could be a cover girl for pinched crispates as the sepals always have that form. The bloom is yellow with a small green throat and is held erect on a 33" scape that generally has one branch with a terminal "W" producing 14 or more buds. Very distinctive early-midseason dormant diploid. Pollen is fertile but pod setting is most difficult. $20/2 fans
